Iran Confirms Death of Security Chief Ali Larijani

Iran has officially confirmed the death of Ali Larijani, head of the Supreme National Security Council, on Tuesday, following Israel’s claim that he was killed in an airstrike.

In a statement released by the council, authorities said Larijani’s son and several members of his security detail were also killed in the attack. Mourning his death, the council stated, “The pure soul of the martyr Dr. Ali Larijani, a righteous servant of Allah, has ascended to join the pure spirits of the martyrs.”

Larijani was a prominent figure in Iran’s political and security landscape for decades. He served as Speaker of Parliament from 2008 to 2020 and played a key role as a lead negotiator in international discussions surrounding Iran’s nuclear program. He was also a close advisor to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.

His reported assassination comes amid escalating tensions between Iran and Israel, with increasing direct confrontations in recent months. Israel has intensified operations targeting senior Iranian officials and military figures across Syria, Lebanon, and within Iran.

These developments, alongside the ongoing violence in Palestine and Lebanon, have raised concerns over broader regional instability. The United States, under President Donald Trump, continues to maintain close strategic alignment with Israel, led by Benjamin Netanyahu.

The latest escalation has heightened fears that the Middle East could move closer to a wider regional conflict.
